About the position

GEICO's Site Reliability Engineering is seeking an experienced Senior Manager to build and manage a new team of engineers focused on creating engineering solutions, tools, frameworks, and automation in performance, efficiency, and reliability. This role is pivotal in enabling application teams to deliver high-performing, efficient, and reliable enterprise-wide products across on-premises and multi-cloud environments. The Senior Manager will lead engineering staff to enhance customer experience and uphold high standards of reliability and availability in a fast-paced, hyper-growth environment.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with application teams to identify and address performance, efficiency, and reliability issues.
  • Influence and build a vision with application owners to expedite the delivery of quality products.
  • Own the end-to-end delivery of team strategy and execution.
  • Develop and motivate teams to solve complex problems and advocate for open-source technologies.
  • Engage in hands-on coding and build highly available systems.
  • Build and mentor a new team of software engineers.
  • Drive the team towards long-term goals while efficiently addressing high-priority technical debts.
  • Act as a thought leader in Site Reliability Engineering, Operational Excellence, and DevOps principles.
  • Share best practices and improve processes within and across teams.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of coding experience.
  • 5+ years of development of tooling and engineering solutions in a large-scale, mission-critical environment.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience supervising personnel in a technical environment.
  • 5+ years of experience with one of the public clouds (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.).
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience.
  • Strong understanding of Site Reliability Engineering and DevOps principles.
  • Fluency in at least one modern programming language (Python, Java, Go).
  • Hands-on experience managing infrastructure components through Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and Ansible.
  • Strong technical acumen in Cloud Architecture, Performance Benchmarking, Capacity Planning, and Reliability tools.
  • Expertise in Container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes) and OS optimization.
  • Experience with Observability platforms and application monitoring tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with open-source software is a big plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of data structures and algorithms.
