About the position

The Senior Software Engineering Manager at Care.com is responsible for leading the engineering team in the design, development, and implementation of high-volume, fault-tolerant, and scalable distributed systems. This role involves collaborating with stakeholders, mentoring team members, and ensuring high-quality outputs while iterating quickly on product features. The position requires a strong technical background and leadership skills to manage a globally distributed development team.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, design, program, test, document, and implement new product features.
• Design and develop a high-volume, fault-tolerant, scalable distributed system.
• Utilize technologies such as iOS/Mobile Application Development, Java, Golang microservices, and AWS services.
• Work with stakeholders in product management to understand business requirements.
• Drive cross-functional efforts with other disciplines.
• Shape development processes to promote high-quality output while iterating quickly.
• Own and review deliverables for accuracy, quality, performance, and completeness.
• Create architecture and design documents, project timelines, and user stories.
• Lead and manage a globally distributed development team.
• Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of team members.

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional engineering experience.
• 4+ years of experience managing or leading a team (manager/tech lead).
• Experience leading multiple engineering teams.
• BS or MS in Computer Science or a similar engineering discipline (preferred).
• Experience with Microservices architecture is a plus.
• AWS experience is a plus.
• Ability to thrive as part of a multi-site development team.
