About the position

The Senior Solar Electrical Engineer / Consultant will oversee the delivery of multidisciplinary renewable energy projects, focusing on electrical design aspects, particularly in solar PV developments. This role involves acting as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and leading a high-energy team through various project phases, including feasibility, pre-construction, and construction. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in utility-scale renewable energy projects and will contribute to business development and operational management.

Responsibilities

  • Leading and managing the review of electrical design packages on both Independent Engineering and Owner's Engineering scopes of work.
  • Leading and managing the electrical design of renewable energy projects from preliminary design through IFC in accordance with pre-defined budgets, deadlines, and quality requirements.
  • Acting as advisor and first escalation path on the electrical team's projects, coordinating and supervising work by junior personnel, other company divisions, and subcontractors.
  • Developing, growing, and managing procedures and operating systems to support the efficient delivery of electrical engineering tasks.
  • Supporting business development and client engagement with a primary focus on electrical engineering scopes of work.
  • Ensuring health, safety, and environmental considerations are integral to project delivery.
  • Adding value, avoiding/resolving issues, mitigating risks, and managing project finances and contracts through robust project management practices.
  • Contributing to business development activities and assisting in securing new opportunities for the company.
  • Participating in site visits and meetings in the USA and abroad.
  • Disseminating knowledge and experiences to other team members and supporting their development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in electrical engineering work on utility scale projects, preferably in renewable power generation.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in the design of electrical engineering systems in a project team environment for electrical distribution systems.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience working in a technical consultancy or similar environment.
  • PE license in power preferred.
  • Ability to prepare high quality, concise documents to convey project progress, status, and financial information.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, with the ability to engage and interface with stakeholders; bilingualism (or proficiency in Spanish) is a strong asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of Electrical Engineering standards, best practices, and safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering software and management software including Smart Plant Electrical, ETAP, SKM, Microsoft Visio, and Microsoft Access.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • A flexible and proactive approach to completing work.
  • Valid driving license for use within the USA.
  • Willingness for occasional domestic travel (up to 20%).
  • Must be a US Citizen or authorized to work lawfully in the US, without sponsorship from Wood.
