About the position

As a Senior Solution Architect in the Data and Analytics unit at Travelers Insurance, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the technology landscape of a global, Dow 30 company. Reporting directly to a member of the Enterprise Architecture and Emerging Technology leadership team, you will collaborate closely with senior technology leaders to redefine our business and technology capabilities. Your primary focus will be on creating a target state for technology architecture that aligns with the strategic goals of the organization. You will be responsible for developing roadmaps and identifying new and emerging technologies that can transform and optimize our business processes. In this role, you will lead a team of high-performing architects, providing mentorship and guidance to inspire and empower them. Your leadership will be crucial in fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration within the team. You will be expected to demonstrate strong architecture and engineering skills, with a deep understanding of modern technologies such as Cloud-native solutions, APIs, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning (ML). As a visionary leader, you will challenge the status quo while ensuring that you first seek to understand the needs of the business and technology landscape. Your responsibilities will include driving continuous technology transformation to minimize technical debt, creating partnerships with senior software engineering teams, and defining technology proof of concepts to validate architectural solutions. You will also be tasked with optimizing talent strategies to attract and retain the best talent in the industry, ensuring that the architecture team is equipped with the necessary skills to meet the evolving technology direction. Overall, your role will be integral to the success of the Enterprise Data and Analytics unit, as you work to establish a unified architecture vision that supports the company's strategic objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture efforts within the Enterprise Data and Analytics business unit.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop architecture priorities and direction.
  • Display thought leadership in modern architecture principles and technology modernization.
  • Drive continuous technology transformation to minimize technical debt.
  • Create partnerships with senior software engineering teams.
  • Analyze key industry and technology trends to assess potential impacts on the enterprise.
  • Define and lead technology proof of concepts to ensure feasibility of architecture solutions.
  • Engage in hands-on prototyping of new technology solutions.
  • Define target state technology architecture and roadmaps.
  • Ensure alignment of IT initiatives with the target state architecture.
  • Build strong partnerships with engineering teams to align skills with technology direction.
  • Prepare and deliver comprehensive communications regarding architectural direction and alignment with enterprise strategy.
  • Optimize talent strategy to attract and recruit top talent for the architecture team.
  • Continuously improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the architecture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technology-related field or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of technology architecture experience.
  • Experience mentoring architects.
  • Expertise in architecting and developing solutions in AWS, Databricks, and Snowflake.
  • Understanding of advanced analytics techniques using ML and AI.
  • Hands-on experience with data technologies on cloud platforms.
  • Strong experience in architecting big data solutions using Data Lake, Data Warehouse, and Data Products.
  • Champion of data technologies in data integration, Business Intelligence, and AI/ML.
  • Experience modernizing data technology and information architecture on cloud.
  • Experience with AWS components including Lambda, Kinesis/Firehose, Airflow, Glue, Spark, EC2, SageMaker, S3, NoSQL database, and API Gateway.
  • Experience in data streaming technologies.
  • Experience with NoSQL and GraphQL technologies.
  • Experience with DevOps and MLOps practices.
  • Organizational and transformational experience in an agile operating model.
  • Proven track record of influencing senior leadership.
  • Strong grasp of value creation and business capability models.

Nice-to-haves

  • Insurance technology experience.
  • Experience executing technology modernization initiatives including migration to cloud native and API Strategy.
  • Current deep experience with AWS, APIs, accelerators, and DevSecOps.
  • Cloud Architecture Certification (AWS, GCP, or Azure) or strong architecture experience on Cloud.
  • Good understanding of security.
  • Experience with large scale technology platforms.
