About the position

The Senior Solutions Engineer - Kafka Connect at Confluent is a pivotal role within the Advanced Technology Team, focusing on the technical aspects of Kafka and distributed systems. This position serves as a technical advisor to the sales team, collaborating with product management and engineering to advocate for the product to prospects and customers. The role requires deep expertise in Kafka, pre-sales engineering, and distributed systems, making it ideal for candidates with backgrounds in Technical Account Management, Sales Engineering, or Professional Services.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with customers to understand their challenges and help design distributed data architectures using Kafka and Kafka Connect.
  • Provide technical expertise to assist the sales team in the architecture, deployment, and optimization of customer data streaming platforms.
  • Collaborate with sales, product management, and engineering teams to turn customer feedback into product improvements.
  • Lead workshops and technical sessions on the advanced capabilities of Kafka and related data integration tools.
  • Continuously improve and adapt messaging on Kafka and streaming solutions based on field feedback.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience architecting complex, enterprise-level data streaming solutions.
  • Experience with Kafka, distributed systems, CDC connectors, RDBMS or NoSQL databases, and ETL tools in enterprise environments.
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to emerging technologies, particularly in the Kafka ecosystem.
  • Familiarity with Java or Python, and knowledge of building ETL applications.
  • 7+ years of experience as a Solutions Engineer or Technical Account Manager.
  • Experience operating within and across cross-functional teams including product management, engineering, sales, and marketing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Extensive knowledge of Kafka Connect, distributed data pipelines, and cloud integration (AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • Expertise in designing and implementing distributed streaming systems for Fortune 1000 companies.
