About the position

The Senior Space Payload Mechanical Engineer will be a key member of CACI's Space Development Team, focusing on the design, development, and integration of space payload system hardware. This role involves leading the planning and implementation of innovative mechanical designs for space-rated applications, collaborating with clients and team members in a fast-paced environment to create mission-critical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Implements strategic goals
  • Establishes operational plans for technical area
  • Develops and implements innovative products, processes, standards or operational plans achieved through research and integration of best practices
  • Significantly improves on existing processes and practices
  • Lead Payload mechanical engineer, expected to architect and define/derive requirements for integration with the space vehicle
  • Design, develop, and deliver space rated mechanical designs for an RF payload
  • Provide support to the systems engineering team across multiple phases of the engineering lifecycle
  • Assist with defining system & performance requirements for space payload applications
  • Support and author Test and Evaluation processes, such as TVAC testing, vibration qualification, regression testing, and more
  • Supporting major subsystem design reviews e.g. SRR, PDR, CDR, and test reviews such as TRR/PSR

Requirements

  • BS degree in mechanical engineering (ABET/EAC Accredited)
  • 7+ Years of experience in the field of mechanical engineering and design
  • Intermediate level experience using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Visio, and other CAD software
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance
  • Knowledge of drafting/drawing standards (ANSI, DOD, MIL)
  • Generate mechanical drawings for use in sheet metal and machining operations
  • Drafts detailed multi-view drawings of assemblies and products
  • Draws finished designs from sketches utilizing solid models and layouts
  • Thermal Modeling using SolidWorks Flow Simulation
  • Static and dynamic analysis using SolidWorks simulation tools
  • Design and test products to MIL-STD-810 and NASA GEVS
  • Experience with TVAC and Vibe testing for space rated hardware applications
  • Design enclosures for PCBs and other electronic components
  • Knowledge of ESD safe working environment
  • Must be mechanically inclined
  • Interpersonal skills required to work with other engineering disciplines and communicate effectively
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Hands-on fabrication and assembly experience
  • Experience with machine shop operations and manufacturing process
  • Ability to work under pressure for quick-reaction projects
  • Knowledge of mechanical standards for materials & fasteners
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to conceive & propose solutions to complex mechanical design problems
  • Must be organized
