About the position
The Senior Space Systems Agile Champion will be a pivotal member of the Agile Transformation Team, engaging with the United States Space Force (USSF) to identify, prioritize, and implement actions that facilitate the rapid incremental fielding of critical software-driven space capabilities. This role is designed for a technical leader who will bridge the gap between research and practical application, focusing on actionable areas that can enhance software engineering practices within the DoD. The position requires a deep understanding of engineering leadership, as the individual will coach senior DoD leaders and their teams, enabling them to enhance performance within the government-organic workforce. The successful candidate will be instrumental in adopting new tools and techniques in highly regulated environments, thereby contributing to the reduction of barriers to innovation across the Department of Defense. In this role, the Senior Space Systems Agile Champion will tackle complex socio-technical challenges while addressing the diverse needs of various stakeholders. The position demands exceptional skills in development and fielding satellite systems, as well as Ground Based Mission Operations Systems. The candidate will be expected to possess a comprehensive understanding of how differentiated capabilities such as Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I), Modeling and Simulation (M&S), Test and Evaluation (T&E), Cybersecurity, Software Development, and Digital Engineering/Acquisition can effectively solve the complex problems faced by the USSF. The role also involves a significant amount of travel, with expectations of 30-50% travel to various customer locations across the U.S.
Responsibilities
- Engage with USSF to identify and prioritize actions for rapid incremental fielding of software-driven space capabilities.
- Coach senior DoD leaders and their teams to enhance performance in the government-organic workforce.
- Facilitate the adoption of new tools and techniques in regulated settings to lower barriers to innovation.
- Analyze complex tradeoffs affecting programmatic and engineering decisions for military leaders.
- Communicate differentiated capabilities to USSF stakeholders to address their complex challenges.
- Work collaboratively with diverse teams to integrate various perspectives and achieve project goals.
Requirements
- BS in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, or a related field with at least ten (10) years of applicable experience; or a master's degree in CS, Information Systems, systems and/or engineering, acquisition management, with at least eight (8) years of applicable experience; or a PhD in relevant fields with at least five (5) years of experience.
- Ability to travel 30-50% to various customer locations within the U.S.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance.
- Deep experience in engineering leadership and coaching in complex environments.
- Exceptional communication skills to address high-level stakeholders.
Nice-to-haves
- Recent experience in program management/oversight for major software-intensive systems.
- Experience supporting rapid incremental delivery approaches in government/military settings.
- Leadership roles in software sustainment programs with resource and technical decision-making responsibilities.
- Experience executing technology transition and adoption in large-scale enterprises.
- Prior experience as a Material Leader on a major ACAT-1 program.
