About the position

The Senior Spacecraft Systems Engineer at KBR will support the development of innovative space vehicles and missions, providing System Engineering Technical Assistance (SETA) to a Department of Defense (DoD) program office. This role involves overseeing the design, development, and production of a DoD acquisition program, ensuring that the vendor meets schedule, cost, and performance requirements. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills and technical expertise in space hardware and software integration, and will be a leader and problem solver in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as program in-plant advisory lead for system programmatic and technical progression.
  • Support and advise acquisition and program management functions, including design challenges and supply chain issues.
  • Help assess the technical sufficiency, cost, quality, and timely delivery of program deliverables.
  • Assist in acquisition planning and drafting technical requirements and documents.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to verify program needs and project goals.
  • Provide technical advice and assist with problem resolution as needed.
  • Support management and execution of programs with multiple projects and subsystems.
  • Aid in the development of a Monthly Status Report on support efforts, including updates on status and performance.
  • Draft, review, and edit final program reports, documents, and briefings.
  • Work independently on high-visibility or mission-critical aspects of the program.

Requirements

  • Minimum ten (10) years of relevant experience on space development programs for the DoD or IC.
  • Proven experience in the development and fielding of satellite systems through design, assembly, integration, test, and deployment.
  • Experience with Space Vehicle and subsystem integration, including ground and flight software development.
  • Experience in DoD acquisition management.
  • Understanding of astrodynamics and corresponding mission user needs.
  • Experience analyzing and developing contract data requirements lists and deliverables.
  • Experience with Integrated Master Schedules and risk management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Fifteen (15) years of relevant experience on space development programs in the DoD or IC.
  • Experience in production management and/or industrial engineering.
  • Experience with ACAT I/II level acquisition programs.
  • Experience as a SETA in a government program office.
  • Experience with rapid prototyping.
  • Experience with integrated air and space system development.
