About the position

The Senior Systems Engineer at the Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is tasked with leading the architecture and technical execution of advanced nuclear weapon systems. This role involves collaborating with a diverse team to translate customer visions into technical solutions, ensuring that program requirements are met, and providing mentorship to junior engineers. The position requires a deep understanding of systems engineering principles and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture and technical trades for nuclear weapon systems.
  • Track risks and requirements throughout the program lifecycle.
  • Ensure technical progress and execution of the program meets customer expectations.
  • Translate customer visions into actionable technical solutions.
  • Support program management in achieving technical requirements and performance goals.
  • Interact with PhD scientists and upper-level managers to facilitate project success.
  • Provide technical support for proposal efforts and mentorship to junior engineers.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 7+ years of relevant Systems Engineering experience or advanced degrees in a related field.
  • Familiarity with DoD requirements processes and subsystems design.
  • Experience collaborating with scientists and engineers.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present clearly to customers.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with a current active security clearance.
  • Ability to travel 25%.
  • Concrete examples of technical mentorship experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge about the U.S. strategic weapons enterprise.
  • Knowledge about hypersonic reentry vehicles.
  • Experience with CAMEO System Modeler.
  • Experience with space hardware development and testing.
  • Experience working with Special Program Offices.
  • Understanding of risks and risk mitigations for DoD systems.
  • Experience with Quality Assurance on DoD programs.
  • Experience with implementing DoD Safety Requirements.
