About the position

The Senior Special Programs Coordinator is a key member of the Student Financial Services team, responsible for student financial aid advising, application support, and aid administration. This position provides direct counseling to prospective and current students and offers support to staff at Student Central, Massasoit's one-stop enrollment center. A primary focus of the role is leading the college's financial aid file completion initiative, including support for students completing FAFSA and MASFA applications and related follow-up. The coordinator also contributes to core financial aid operations, including verification, resolving FAFSA rejects and C-codes, reviewing Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), evaluating appeals, and adjusting aid packages in accordance with federal, state, and institutional regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate and confidential financial aid counseling to current and prospective students, including guidance on eligibility, award information, documentation requirements, application completion, and student account and billing information.
  • Establish and lead a college-wide financial aid file completion initiative, with a focus on supporting students through FAFSA and MASFA submissions and the resolution of incomplete or rejected applications.
  • Deliver high-quality customer service and financial aid expertise at Massasoit's one-stop enrollment center, Student Central, including serving as a resource to front-line staff on file completion and aid-related inquiries.
  • Assist students at the Student Central kiosks with tasks related to financial aid, billing, and enrollment, including FAFSA/MASFA completion, FSA ID creation, loan counseling and MPNs, health insurance waivers, and navigating the student portal to make payments, set up payment plans, and register for classes.
  • Perform all aspects of the awarding process, including federal verification, resolution of conflicting information, loan processing, appeal review, award recalculations, satisfactory academic progress (SAP) evaluation, and resolution of application errors and student eligibility issues.
  • Award and adjust financial aid packages in compliance with federal and state regulations, and in accordance with institutional packaging policies and directives.
  • Represent Student Financial Services at internal and external events, including recruitment and informational sessions, FAFSA/MASFA workshops, and other outreach activities; may deliver occasional presentations or facilitate small-group workshops.
  • Assist with maintaining and updating Student Financial Services website content, including development of new content that support financial aid application completion.
  • Stay current with federal, state, and institutional financial aid policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a related field such as Education, Counseling, Business Administration, Accounting, or Human Services and at least three (3) years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and professional experience in areas such as financial aid administration, student services, or program coordination.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations and student eligibility requirements.
  • Ability to provide clear, accurate, and student-centered advising in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Ability to collaborate with staff and contribute to a cross-functional service model.
  • Willingness to occasionally work evenings, weekends, or at other Massasoit campuses or instructional sites, as needed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Banner system or similar student information system.
  • Experience assisting students with financial aid applications, loan counseling, or student account tools in a one-stop or cross-functional service environment.
  • Ability to deliver presentations or facilitate workshops related to financial aid and FAFSA/MASFA completion.
  • Strong written communication skills, including experience contributing to web content or student-facing informational materials.
  • Bilingual or multilingual communication skills are a plus.
