About the position

The Senior Specialist, Power Plant at National Grid is responsible for ensuring the quality of work performed in accordance with the Boiler Repair Quality System Manual. This role supports the Generation Asset Management System and Process Assurance programs, focusing on compliance and quality standards in boiler repairs and inspections.

Responsibilities

  • Perform the duties of the Quality Inspector in the National Grid Generation Boiler Repair R-Stamp program.
  • Inspect all procured items associated with R-Stamp boiler repairs to ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards.
  • Work with suppliers to resolve deficiencies in procured items.
  • Review all welding job packages associated with fabrication, repair, or alteration within the R-Stamp program.
  • Review welders and weld inspectors qualifications and ensure records are maintained.
  • Calibrate measurement and test equipment used for quality inspections within the R-Stamp program.
  • File completed/approved National Board R forms with the appropriate jurisdictional authorities.
  • Coordinate with authorities and National Grid organizations to obtain the National Board R-Stamp triennial recertification.
  • Maintain the National Grid Boiler Repair Quality System Manual and welding procedures.
  • Provide technical support to field installation forces at Power Station sites.
  • Interface with engineers, designers, plant staff, and maintenance support departments.
  • Support Asset Management System assessments and implement findings and recommendations.
  • Monitor Asset Management Plans implementation and provide status reports.

Requirements

  • 3 or more years of related power station or large boilers experience.
  • Associate degree preferred.
  • Detail-oriented with strong technical knowledge.
  • Good understanding of quality control processes and standards.
  • Knowledge of New York State Code Rules 4 and 14 for boilers and pressure vessels.
  • Knowledge of National Board Inspection Code rules.
  • Experience with ASME Codes related to inspection of pipes, tubes, valves, fittings, and weld filler materials.
  • Effective verbal, written, interpersonal and computer skills.
  • A valid New York State driver's license.
