About the position

The Senior Specialty Representative for Eye Care is responsible for managing sales efforts for AbbVie's eye care specialty pharmaceutical portfolio within a designated territory. This role involves engaging primarily with ophthalmologists, optometrists, and their staff to maintain and grow prescription volumes, particularly in private practices and community clinics. The position offers a unique opportunity to work within AbbVie's flagship business unit, promoting leading products for Glaucoma and Dry Eye, while leveraging a strong reputation and relationships within the eye care community.

Responsibilities

  • Manage sales efforts for the eye care specialty pharmaceutical portfolio within a designated territory.
  • Engage primarily with ophthalmologists, optometrists, and key staff members to maintain and grow Rx volumes.
  • Promote AbbVie's market-leading products for Glaucoma and Dry Eye.
  • Develop and implement sales strategies based on customer behavior and findings.
  • Collaborate with district colleagues and matrix teams to maximize business opportunities.
  • Provide innovative ideas and solutions to address challenges in the sales process.
  • Document and report on sales performance and customer interactions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in biological sciences, pharmacy, business related field, or equivalent.
  • Proven track record of success in sales with solid presentation skills.
  • In-depth scientific, therapeutic, product, and competitive knowledge.
  • Strong business acumen and proficient use of business tools.
  • Strategic and critical thinking capabilities.
  • Ability to adapt selling approach based on customer style and behavior.
  • Experience operating effectively in a matrix environment.
  • Leadership experience with increased responsibility at district, region, or organizational levels.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proven track record of success in sales performance within therapeutic areas.
  • Experience in the commercial pharmaceutical industry, including physician/account-based selling, training, managed health care, or marketing.
  • Ophthalmology or Optometric sales background.
  • Customer knowledge with eye care specialists in the local area.
