About the position

The Senior Specification Writer at AECOM is responsible for leading the writing and management of specifications for various complex projects across multiple building types, including commercial, educational, healthcare, and scientific facilities. This part-time variable role requires collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure project specifications meet design requirements and industry standards, while also incorporating sustainability measures such as LEED.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the specifications writing and management for multiple projects.
  • Identifies LEED and other sustainability measurement methods in their work.
  • Collaborates with team members to assist in the preparation of contract documents.
  • Interacts with teams in multiple offices to develop detailed, project-specific specifications.
  • Reviews drawings and other project information to write and edit project specifications.
  • Translates project needs based on a thorough understanding of design requirements.
  • Maintains awareness of industry reference standards and resources.
  • Proposes continual development and improvement of master specifications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering or a related field.
  • 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Good working knowledge of building codes and construction materials and techniques.

Nice-to-haves

  • 10+ years of relevant experience with 5 years of experience in specification writing.
  • Architectural Licensure.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Knowledge of specification formats - Masterformat, Uniformat and narrative approaches.
  • Strong experience with MS Office software.
  • Good working knowledge of recent contract laws as it applies to construction.
  • Knowledgeable of LEED and other sustainability measurement methods.
  • Strong communication skills.
