About the position

The Senior Sponsored Programs Specialist at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) plays a crucial role in securing external funding to support the research goals of faculty and staff. This position is responsible for overseeing all pre-award activities, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and university regulations, and providing expert guidance to faculty and staff in proposal preparation. The role also involves developing training programs and workshops to enhance the capabilities of the Office of Sponsored Programs and the broader UCCS community.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and explain guidelines and regulations related to research administration to UCCS members.
  • Initiate application packages in agency-specific online systems as necessary.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to staff with pre-award duties.
  • Assist faculty and staff in preparing proposal budgets and required documentation.
  • Review applications and budget proposals for completeness and compliance with regulations.
  • Develop and coordinate communications with Principal Investigators to streamline proposal submissions.
  • Perform quality assurance processes to ensure compliance with regulations governing sponsored programs.
  • Maintain and serve as the main contact for the UCCS Pre-Award software, Cayuse.
  • Assist the Director with research and preparation of training materials.
  • Develop and deliver training and workshops on various topics related to sponsored programs.
  • Monitor and communicate changes in regulations affecting sponsored programs administration.
  • Coordinate with compliance offices to ensure eligibility and compliance for sponsored projects.
  • Prepare reports and track sponsored program activity data.
  • Initiate accounting requests for new awards and manage subcontracts in federal databases.
  • Collaborate with the Director of OSP on process improvements and special projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any area.
  • Experience in sponsored programs administration.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal regulations related to sponsored programs administration.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in a related field.
  • Experience working at an institution of higher education.
  • Experience with pre-award software.
