About the position

The Senior Sponsored Research Financial Analyst at Emory University plays a crucial role in the Research Grants and Contracts (RGC) department, focusing on post-award processing of grants and contracts. This position involves account management, financial reconciliation, and providing support to principal investigators and research personnel. The analyst will ensure compliance with funding regulations, assist in financial reporting, and collaborate with various units within RGC to enhance operational efficiency and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for post-award processing of grants and contracts.
  • Provide account management, reconciliation, and resolution for principal investigators and research support personnel.
  • Advise and interpret research funding awards, monitor accounting and procurement expenditures, and support accounts payable/receivable processes.
  • Provide policy and procedure interpretation to academic departments and assist in preparing reports to federal and sponsoring agencies.
  • Review contracts, maintain grant and contract files, review invoices, and monitor accounts receivable and deliverable reports.
  • Develop queries and reports on the financial system and work with division business managers to resolve contractual issues.
  • Communicate with sponsors to ensure compliance with contract regulations and reporting requirements, and close out contracts.
  • Assist with post-award activities including regular review, reconciliation, and preparation of financial reports/invoices.
  • Partner with RGC team members and school/division/RAS representatives to resolve audit issues or findings.
  • Track metrics to monitor efficiency and efficacy, generate reports, and suggest operational adjustments.
  • Conduct compliance reviews of high-risk transactions or awards to ensure adherence to sponsored compliance requirements.
  • Utilize audit sampling techniques to obtain evidence for reasonable assurances related to high-risk transactions.
  • Contribute to RGC's mission metrics to minimize noncompliance risk related to timely billing and reporting, draw downs, collections, and award closeouts.
  • Assist in analyses due to investigations or other internal inquiries.
  • Participate in audits, fiscally related site visits, and desk reviews on sponsored awards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting or Finance.
  • 5 years of professional accounting or financial analysis experience, preferably in research/sponsored programs accounting, or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
  • Certified Research Administrator or Certified Financial Research Administrator preferred.
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft Financial System and PeopleSoft Grants Module is a plus.
