About the position

The Senior SQL Database Administrator will join a global IT Managed Service provider, focusing on delivering technical solutions to internal business partners. This role requires extensive knowledge in SQL Server administration, particularly in Microsoft Azure and on-premises environments, to manage all aspects of database administration for a major oil and gas customer. The position emphasizes a collaborative and growth-oriented work culture, aiming to attract and retain exceptional talent.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement fault-tolerant SQL Server solutions using high availability patterns for scalability and stability in on-premises and Microsoft Azure.
  • Design and deploy Microsoft SQL PaaS solutions in Microsoft Azure.
  • Monitor and maintain database storage, health, performance, sustainability, and security.
  • Monitor and maintain SQL Server Mirroring, Log shipping, backups, ETL SSIS jobs, and encryption.
  • Provide SQL Server administration in MS SQL Server 2016, 2017, and/or 2019.
  • Plan and implement database backup strategies and perform recovery in case of disaster.
  • Analyze SQL query plans, suggest and implement solutions to support developers in the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Install, configure, and upgrade database management systems and software including clustering environment.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Computer Science or Information Technology; an advanced degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in the management and administration of enterprise level SQL databases in SQL Server 2016 or 2017.
  • Experience designing fault-tolerant MS SQL solutions.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience with the planning and implementation of MS SQL database disaster recovery for enterprise level applications.
  • Knowledge of physical database design, database changes, enforcement of data integrity, and security management.
  • Knowledge of query languages, T-SQL.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and fix issues, and work well across functional teams.
  • Ability to install, configure, and patch database management systems and software.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, initiative, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail, and good oral and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of PowerShell DSC is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Power BI is preferred.
  • Experience on SQL Server 2019 Administration is preferred.
