About the position

The Senior SQL Database Administrator at Xerox is responsible for managing and optimizing Microsoft SQL Server databases to ensure high availability and performance. This role involves owning, tracking, and resolving database-related incidents and requests, ensuring that all tasks are completed within established service level agreements (SLAs). The administrator will review service-related reports daily, including database backups, maintenance, and monitoring, to identify and resolve any service-related issues promptly. Additionally, the role requires responding to database alerts and escalations, collaborating with application developers and systems engineers to devise strategic solutions for recurring problems. Key responsibilities include troubleshooting and resolving database problems, performance tuning and optimization using native monitoring tools, and error identification and remediation. The administrator will assist with backups, restores, replication, and recovery models, as well as develop SQL jobs for data exports, data purges, and error monitoring. The role also involves implementing high availability and disaster recovery options for MS SQL Server, including database clustering and log shipping, and operational automation through scripting. The successful candidate will utilize indexes, manage index statistics, and ensure the overall health and performance of the database systems. This position requires a strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices, along with extensive experience in Microsoft SQL Server. The administrator will be an active member of the application deployment team, responsible for deploying code to various environments, including Test, UAT, and production. The role also demands excellent communication and customer relationship skills, as well as the ability to thrive in a fast-paced team environment.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Information Technology, or related field preferred.
  • 7+ years of IT operations experience with a strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
  • 7+ years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Understanding of server-client computing and relational database environments.
  • Experience with data management and data processing techniques.
  • Knowledge of reporting and query tools and practices.
  • Application development experience in technologies such as MS Commerce Server, Content Management Systems, .NET, AJAX, and jQuery.
  • Experience working in an enterprise-level eCommerce environment.
  • Active involvement in the MS SQL Server Community.
