About the position

The Senior SQL Database Administrator at Xerox is a pivotal role within the Presales & Implementation department, responsible for managing and optimizing the performance of Microsoft SQL Server databases. This position requires a proactive approach to database administration, including owning, tracking, and resolving database-related incidents and requests. The Senior Database Administrator will ensure that all requests are fulfilled and incidents resolved within established Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Daily responsibilities include reviewing service-related reports such as database backups, maintenance, and monitoring to identify and address service-related issues promptly. In addition to monitoring and maintenance, the role involves responding to database alerts and escalations, collaborating with application developers and systems engineers to devise strategic solutions for recurring database problems. The Senior Database Administrator will also be tasked with performance tuning and optimization (PTO) using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools, as well as error identification, analysis, and remediation. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of database operations, which are essential for supporting the company's diverse business solutions and services. Key duties include managing Microsoft SQL Server Database Administration, troubleshooting and resolving database issues, and implementing high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) strategies. The role also encompasses developing SQL jobs for data exports, data purges, and error monitoring, as well as automating operational tasks through scripting. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in database structures, theories, principles, and practices, along with extensive experience in Microsoft SQL Server environments.

Responsibilities

  • Own, track, and resolve database-related incidents and requests.
  • Fulfill requests and resolve incidents within established SLAs.

  • Assist with backups, restores, replication, and recovery models.
  • Develop SQL jobs for data exports, data purges, and error monitoring.
  • Implement high availability and disaster recovery options for MS SQL Server.
  • Automate operational tasks using scripts.
  • Manage indexes, index management, and statistics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Information Technology, or related field preferred.
  • 7+ years of IT operations experience with a strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
  • 7+ years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Understanding of server-client computing and relational database environments.
  • Experience with data management and data processing techniques.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with SQL reporting and SSIS packages.
  • Familiarity with operational automation using scripts.
