About the position

As a Senior SQL DBA at IBM Consulting, you will play a crucial role in designing, installing, configuring, auditing, and maintaining highly available enterprise database systems. Your work will be based at Ft. Belvoir in Alexandria, VA, where you will be responsible for ensuring the integrity and performance of SQL Server databases. This position requires a proactive approach to monitoring backups on all SQL Server databases and performing routine disaster recovery testing scenarios to ensure data safety and availability. You will troubleshoot and maintain database performance, proposing both short-term fixes and long-term solutions. Regular scheduling of index maintenance and database integrity checks will be part of your responsibilities, along with establishing and maintaining database policies and standards. You will generate database schema definitions and modifications as required, and refresh data from one processing environment to another as needed. Documentation is key in this role; you will develop, follow, and maintain team documentation for repeatable processes, including database feature installation, disaster recovery, and common problem resolution. Adhering to ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) practices for Change Management is essential, as is working on trouble tickets and participating in security audits. This position requires the ability to obtain a Secret Security clearance or higher, which is a prerequisite for employment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, install, configure, audit, and maintain highly available enterprise database systems.

Requirements

  • CompTIA Security+ certification and Microsoft SQL Server 2016 (or higher) certification.
  • At least 3 years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise Edition and all facets of database administration including migration.
  • At least 3 years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server High Availability features: Failover, Clustering, Log Shipping, Database Mirroring, AlwaysOn Availability Groups.
  • At least 3 years of experience with Windows Server (2016 and higher) and Microsoft Failover Clusters.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security clearance or higher.

Nice-to-haves

  • Installation and configuration experience with SQL Server 2019 (and higher) and SQL Server Cumulative Updates (CUs).
