About the position

As a Senior SQL Server Database Administrator at Ascend Learning, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the performance and reliability of our database systems. Your primary responsibilities will include identifying and resolving production and application development problems, ensuring that our databases operate at optimal levels. You will be tasked with calculating optimum values for database parameters, evaluating and integrating new releases, and performing regular maintenance tasks. Additionally, you will serve as a point of contact for user inquiries from various teams within the organization, providing support and guidance as needed. In this role, you will collaborate closely with technology and business groups, as well as Application Development and Engineering teams, to establish effective working partnerships. Your technical expertise will be essential in designing solutions and documenting processes at the product level. You will also support the implementation of software through database development, participate in load and performance testing, and analyze any bottlenecks or performance issues that arise. A key aspect of your job will involve rapidly diagnosing and fixing production problems, which may require reverse engineering and conducting root cause analysis using existing tools and resources. Your contributions will directly impact the efficiency and effectiveness of our database systems, ultimately supporting our mission to improve outcomes for students, educators, and healthcare workers.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain database performance by identifying and resolving production and application development problems.
  • Calculate optimum values for parameters, evaluate, integrate, and install new releases.
  • Complete maintenance and answer user questions from various teams at Ascend.
  • Create and establish working partnerships with various technology and business groups, Application Development, and Engineering teams across the enterprise.
  • Provide technical solution design and documentation at the product level.
  • Support implementation of software with database development.
  • Participate in Load and Performance Tests and analyze bottlenecks and performance issues.
  • Rapidly diagnose and fix problems in production, involving reverse engineering and root cause analysis utilizing existing tools and resources.

Requirements

  • Master's or foreign equivalent degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the job offered or related occupation.
  • Experience must include three (3) years with using multiple services in AWS like Secret Manager, Service Catalog, S3 buckets, EBS Volumes, CloudWatch, CloudFormation.
  • Experience in designing DACPAC packages for automatic deployments using SQLPackage.exe utility.
  • Experience managing and supporting databases that have Change Data Capture (CDC) and Transactional Replication.
  • Experience working closely with the NITC/DISC team in planning and organizing the service packs and cumulative update packages on SQL Servers.
  • Experience writing custom T-SQL scripts to configure alerts.
  • Experience working closely with the development, application, and testing team to deploy any new enhancements to applications.
