About the position

The Senior SQL Server Developer/DBA position is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to work directly with a client in Philadelphia, PA. This role involves advanced database development and administration, focusing on optimizing SQL Server performance and providing technical guidance on database solutions. The position requires a strong background in database management and a commitment to best practices in database operations.

Responsibilities

• Advanced Database Development experience with Microsoft SQL Server Database.
• Provide Senior level Database Administration support including installing, upgrading, backup and recovery, configuring, and performance tuning.
• Evaluate SQL Server Query performance and provide guidance on query redesign and index modifications.
• Utilize tools such as Idera SQL Diagnostic monitor, Query Store, SQL Server Profiler, and Dynatrace for database query evaluation and tuning.
• Evaluate index statistics and fragmentation to ensure optimal database performance.
• Create SQL Server performance documentation and best practices for development and administration teams.
• Participate in evaluations and recommendations for database solutions based on business requirements.
• Monitor and measure performance of all database components and provide input on capacity planning.
• Escalate technical issues as required and participate in database tuning efforts.
• Apply administration best practices in daily operations.

Requirements

• BA/BS in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent knowledge acquired by work experience and training.
• Industry-recognized technical certification preferred (e.g. SQL, MCDBA).
• Working knowledge of database file structure, retrieval and access methods, and performance analysis.
• Basic understanding of the development process and business process.
• Ten (10) or more years of related IT experience as a SQL Server database administrator.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in large scale environments with high transaction volumes such as ecommerce or banking.
