About the position

The Senior Staff Accountant position is a critical role within the Finance Department of an established and growing manufacturing company. This position is responsible for supporting the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and the Controller in their financial management duties. The Senior Staff Accountant will maintain and control the general ledger accounts and oversee business transactions, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This role involves analytical work and a thorough review of financial records to ensure accuracy and integrity in financial reporting. In this position, the Senior Staff Accountant will provide essential accounting support by reviewing financial information and obtaining supplementary data to assist in the monthly general ledger close and the preparation of financial statements. The role requires the preparation of general ledger entries, maintenance of records and files, and reconciliation of accounts. The accountant will analyze information and options by developing spreadsheet reports and verifying data to ensure accuracy. The Senior Staff Accountant will regularly maintain detailed reconciliations of selected balance sheet accounts and calculate expense allocations, monthly accruals, amortization of prepaid expenses, and fixed asset depreciation. This position also involves compiling analyses of actuals to forecast data and communicating with plant managers monthly to review financial information. The accountant will be responsible for reconciling and reviewing all employee expense reports, ensuring timely collection of dues to the corporation, and preparing monthly presentations for the CFO and Controller. Additionally, the role may require assistance with accounts payable processing, preparation of sales tax reports, and performing banking activities, including updating and analyzing the cash forecast as needed. Other accounting, financial, or administrative tasks may be assigned by the CFO or Controller as required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide accounting support by reviewing financial information and obtaining supplementary information for monthly general ledger close and financial statement preparation.
  • Prepare general ledger entries by maintaining records and files; reconciling accounts.
  • Analyze information and options by developing spreadsheet reports and verifying information.
  • Maintain detailed reconciliations of selected balance sheet accounts regularly.
  • Calculate expense allocations, monthly accruals, amortization of prepaid expenses, and fixed assets depreciation; record adjusting and reclassification journal entries.
  • Compile analysis of actuals to forecast data.
  • Communicate with plant managers monthly to review financial information.
  • Reconcile and review all employee expense reports.
  • Ensure timely collection of monies due to the corporation as needed.
  • Prepare monthly presentations for CFO and Controller review.
  • Assist with accounts payable processing as needed.
  • Prepare sales tax reports for tax consultants to review.
  • Perform banking activities; update and analyze the cash forecast as needed.
  • Perform other accounting, financial, or administrative tasks as required by the CFO or Controller.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required.
  • 3-5 years' experience in accounting or related field.
  • Experience with Accounts Receivable and/or Accounts Payable preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with Excel and financial reports.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Able to read and understand technical forms and financial reports.
  • Willingness to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

  • Experience with NetSuite a plus.
  • Cost Accounting and Budget preparation a plus.
