About the position

The Senior Staff Accountant will play a crucial role in maintaining the financial integrity of the organization by overseeing financial reports, records, and general ledger accounts. This position is responsible for managing the month-end close process, which includes the thorough preparation of monthly journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial analyses. The Senior Staff Accountant will ensure comprehensive and accurate financial reporting, which is essential for the organization’s financial health and compliance with regulatory standards. In addition to the month-end close responsibilities, the Senior Staff Accountant will assist divisions in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of control documentation, particularly in relation to Sarbanes-Oxley and internal audit requirements. This role will also involve monitoring division performance against key metrics such as sales, starts, closings, backlog, gross profit, SG&A spending, ROI, and inventory turn. The Senior Staff Accountant will maintain documentation for accounts payable, purchasing, and treasury-related tasks, serving as a vital liaison between the division and corporate office for all accounting-related responsibilities. The position requires an individual who can actively identify areas for potential cost savings and process improvements. The Senior Staff Accountant will also provide financial modeling, ad-hoc analysis, and assistance with corporate and division projects and initiatives as needed. Other duties may be assigned as necessary, making this a dynamic role that requires adaptability and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining financial reports, records, and general ledger accounts
  • Manage the month-end close process
  • Preparation of monthly journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial analyses
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of control documentation relating to Sarbanes-Oxley and internal audit requirements
  • Help divisions comply with corporate policies and procedures
  • Monitor division performance in key metrics (sales, starts, closings, backlog, gross profit, SG&A spending, ROI, inventory turn)
  • Maintain documentation for accounts payable, purchasing, and treasury-related tasks
  • Serve as a liaison between the division and corporate office for accounting responsibilities
  • Identify areas of potential cost savings and/or process improvement
  • Provide financial modeling, ad-hoc analysis, and assistance with corporate and division projects and initiatives

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from a four-year college or university
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years financial/accounting experience
  • Proficiency with MS Office and email
  • Preferred experience with BRIX
  • High level of Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP system knowledge
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and attention to detail
