About the position

The successful candidate will be responsible for day-to-day accounting for property and developmental related transactions, particularly focusing on single-family rental communities (SFRC). This role is critical in supporting growth through collaboration with cross-functional teams, showcasing strong financial acumen, effective communication skills, and adaptability in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close transactions
  • Prepare journal entries, including prepaid amortization, other direct expenses, reclassifications, and monthly accruals
  • Assist with audit requests, including general audit inquiries, preparation of schedules/reports, testing of internal controls
  • Analyze property-related transactions to ensure accuracy, completeness, compliance, and reasonableness
  • Assist with system and process improvements to enhance financial reporting and accounting efficiency
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and training documentation
  • Support management with special research projects and presentations, as required
  • Prepare Monthly balance sheet reconciliations, bank account reconciliations, and schedules for proper amortization, accruals, and true ups
  • Participate in research of accounting transactions and financial reporting such as budget-to-actual, month-over-month variance analysis, and reporting to partners
  • Reconcile monthly construction costs to ensure alignment with project budgets
  • Allocate development costs upon the delivery of homes to ensure accurate financial reporting and project cost tracking
  • Record the acquisition of completed homes and ensure accurate financial documentation
  • Manage and record all cash activities related to funding, including sweeps and waterfalls
  • Coordinate development funding with the funds team, general contractors, and lenders to ensure smooth financial operations
  • Monitor bank balances on a weekly basis and ensure sufficient funds are available for check runs
  • Prepare and process wire transfers to general contractors and other recipients as required throughout the month

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and international financial reporting standards
  • 3+ years property management/real estate experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Knowledge of Yardi would be a plus
  • CPA designation would be a plus
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel; proficient in other Microsoft Office programs
