About the position

The Senior Staff Accountant plays a crucial role in providing accounting support to the Department Director and the Accounting Manager. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with fiscal policies and procedures, managing financial data, and communicating findings to various stakeholders. The role requires a strong understanding of accounting principles and the ability to analyze financial data effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Provides accounting support to the Department Director, Service Area's Accounting Manager and/or Controller in a variety of fiscal and accounting tasks.
  • Responsible for reviewing expenditures for assigned programs.
  • Responsible for the timely and accurate submission of cash receipts, deposits, journal entries, program billings and in-kind reports to ensure compliance with agency/programmatic policies and procedures, professional standards, external requirements of all relevant regulatory, licensing or accrediting bodies in the course of performing job expectations.
  • Oversees the reconciliation of revenue and receivables in the general ledger for the month-end closing.
  • Analyzes financial data and makes financial projections and communicates findings to the Department Director, Accounting Manager, service area Controller, and program staff.
  • Communicates with and is the first point of contact for various funders and/or auditors in consultation with his/her supervisory chain, as needed.
  • May administer petty cash for assigned programs, if applicable.
  • Researches and resolves discrepancies to accounts by making the necessary recommendations and adjustments.
  • Reconciles variances, Agency credit card transactions, gathers supporting documentation and prepares monthly journal entry to allocate costs.
  • Works collaboratively with program staff, internal departments, and external partners to resolve any accounting issues.

Requirements

  • Preferred: Associate's Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum: High School diploma
  • Preferred: 7+ years of accounting experience
  • Minimum: 5+ years of accounting experience
