We are currently seeking a Senior Staff Civil/Geotechnical Engineer to join our Portland or Seattle team. The ideal candidate will have 2+ years of relevant experience in civil or geotechnical engineering, with a focus on delivering tunnels, underground, and water infrastructure projects. This role involves geotechnical design and reporting, supporting geotechnical investigation programs, conducting stability analysis, and assisting with tunnel and shaft design. The successful candidate will work under the direction of senior engineers and will be an integral member of a team on complex, multi-discipline projects. We value good writing and communication skills, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with internal staff and clients.

Responsibilities

  • Geotechnical design and reporting (engineering, data, and baseline reports)
  • Support geotechnical investigation programs including planning, permitting, implementation, data reporting, and writing interpretative reports
  • Conduct stability analysis and retaining wall/excavation support design
  • Perform seismic response analysis, such as liquefaction analysis and ground deformation analysis
  • Assist with tunnel and shaft design
  • Work under the direction of senior engineers, who provide technical oversight and review
  • Engage in a variety of office and field assignments, focusing on geotechnical engineering analyses
  • Develop drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical memoranda that present the basis of design
  • Collaborate as an integral member of a team on complex, multi-discipline projects
  • Demonstrate good writing and communication skills and ability to communicate with internal staff and clients

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Geotechnical/Civil or Geological Engineering
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification or ability to obtain in 6 months
  • Completion of relevant coursework or experience in geotechnical engineering, soil and rock mechanics, subsurface investigation methods, foundation engineering, and finite element analysis
  • Familiarity with geotechnical analysis software for slope and excavation stability analysis, seepage analysis, seismic site response analysis (such as SLIDE, UNWEDGE and DEEPSOIL)
  • Familiarity with numerical analyses software, such as FLAC 2D, PLAXIS, and ABAQUS is a plus
  • Ability to manage a number of concurrent assignments and priorities
  • Strong analytical and technical communication skills

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in excavation support
  • Knowledge of trenchless technologies
  • Prior work experience in seismic analyses
  • Familiarity with advanced geotechnical software
