About the position

The Senior Staff Hardware Test Engineering Architect at Agility Robotics is a pivotal role that focuses on developing a robust test infrastructure to support the company's innovative robotics solutions. Reporting to the Test Engineering and Services Director, this position is responsible for creating a comprehensive testing system layout that integrates seamlessly with the manufacturing, engineering, and innovation teams. The architect will collaborate closely with various departments, including electrical, mechanical, software, and manufacturing, to ensure that the test infrastructure is effective and efficient across the organization. As Agility Robotics embarks on designing the next generation of its flagship robot, Digit, the expectations for system reliability and performance are significantly heightened. The test engineering team plays a crucial role in defining and validating the success of the product through rigorous design and extensive testing. The Senior Test Engineering Architect will lead the charge in establishing the necessary test infrastructure and control processes, ensuring that all testing activities align with the company's high standards for quality and innovation. In this role, the architect will be responsible for developing and maintaining test automation infrastructure that supports Agility's products at both the component and solution levels. This includes translating system requirements and engineering specifications into actionable tests, negotiating test rigor with stakeholders, and driving innovative testing solutions. The architect will also oversee test systems workflows, mentor junior engineers, and promote a collaborative and safe work environment. Depending on the candidate's experience and alignment with the position requirements, there may be an opportunity for a west coast remote work configuration, although regular travel to Agility's design facility will be necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain test automation infrastructure that supports and exercises Agility's products at the component and solution levels.
  • Develop and maintain a deep knowledge of all subsystems used in Agility's products and calibration and test equipment.
  • Assist in translating system requirements and engineering specifications into tests.
  • Negotiate test rigor and trade-offs with multiple stakeholders.
  • Work with talented cross-functional teams to drive innovative, elegant testing solutions that meet validate requirements.
  • Support hiring and performance reviews for the test engineering group.
  • Support the oversight of test systems workflows, assignments and help to refine the processes in test engineering for collaboration within all disciplines.
  • Monitor test infrastructure deliverables and project timelines and ensure the objectives are met.
  • Mentor and guide junior test engineers.
  • Promote and contribute to a safe, collaborative work environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
  • Minimum 10 or more years of relevant professional experience
  • Minimum 5 or more years' experience working as a test architect or similar test infrastructure role.
  • Experience in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Experience with test management platforms and test framework tools and systems.
  • Hands-on experience integrating test platforms/frameworks into third party manufacturing data collection/configuration systems.
  • Proven project management skills.
  • Authorization to work in the US.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degrees with professional engineering experience
  • Skilled in conflict resolution, contract negotiation
  • Broad design experience relevant to robotics: embedded systems, high-speed signals, servo drives, Ethernet/EtherCAT, cameras, Lidar, IMU, CPU/GPU integration, etc.
  • Knowledge of relevant technologies which may include: Mechatronics / Robotics, Mechanical and electrical interfaces, Communication protocols, Sensors, actuators, controllers, Kinematics of mechanisms, Vision and display systems, Understanding of structured product development (requirements-driven engineering, documentation, rigorous verification, etc.), Engineering verification test development and execution, Experience with motors and motor control, especially using BLDC motors, Experience with sensors such as Encoders, Hall Effect Sensors, Torque, and Load Cells, Experience with Ethernet, EtherCat, USB, and other high-speed busses.
