About the position

As a Sr. Staff Designer at Discord, you will play a pivotal role in defining design quality and collaborating across teams to enhance the product experience. You will focus on creating intuitive and delightful experiences for app developers and users within the Platform Ecosystems team, combining user empathy with UX, UI, prototyping, and visual design skills. Your leadership will guide a growing team of designers and ensure high standards of design implementation.

Responsibilities

• Craft the standard for visual caliber and quality within Discord and the Platform Ecosystems team.
• Identify gaps or improvements for the design system and create patterns adopted across the design organization.
• Lead vision-setting initiatives across teams, bringing diverse product ideas into a cohesive vision with tactical design deliverables.
• Present and communicate designs to peers and executives to gain alignment.
• Partner with the Platform Ecosystems Design Director to lead team rituals and introduce new ways of working.
• Eliminate design debt and inconsistencies within the product.
• Own the direction, design decisions, and quality bar for your own work while mentoring others.
• Simplify the Apps user experience using wireframes, user journeys, and prototypes to enhance product experiences.
• Collaborate with design leadership to deliver design-wide programs and establish new working standards.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience designing consumer-facing products.
• Experience in leading designers or teams at an initiative level.
• Strong communication skills to present ideas and develop product strategy.
• Desire to understand the 'why' before defining the 'how' for strategic product vision.
• High level of design craft and commitment to maintaining design implementation standards.
• Portfolio showcasing primary design leadership on large-scale, high-impact projects for desktop and mobile.
• Experience working with and contributing to a design system.
