About the position

Zoox is seeking a seasoned Android engineer to join its Software Engineering team. This role offers a high degree of independence and the opportunity to shape the mobile Android roadmap, contributing to the rollout of services that integrate with Rider, Cloud, and Robot systems. The engineer will be responsible for establishing best practices and interfaces to ensure a robust, usable, and secure system.

Responsibilities

• Manage and own the design and implementation of Zoox's user-facing applications on Android for smart-phone and embedded environments.
• Set and implement current best practices in mobile development.
• Collaborate with design and product teams to enhance user access to Zoox services.

Requirements

• BS / MS in Computer Science or similar degree with 7+ years of relevant experience.
• Strong background in mobile development on Android.
• Deep understanding of Android UI and backend mobile development.
• Demonstrated experience building high-quality mobile apps from scratch to production and ongoing maintenance.
• Proven intuition about usability supported by data, such as AB testing.
• Verifiable long-term ownership of public-facing applications through multiple releases.
• Dynamic, driven, and hands-on with the ability to multitask across functions.
• Experience with mobile testing frameworks and services.
• Experience interfacing with external components defined and maintained by other entities.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with custom/specialized Android devices, AOSP, or other embedded Linux.
• Proven leadership in mobile development.
• Meaningful contribution and ownership of a highly-popular, heavily downloaded app.
• iOS development experience is a plus, with potential for growth into a Mobile Development managerial role.
• Strong background as a CS generalist.
