About the position

The Senior Stress Analyst Engineer at GILLIG plays a crucial role in the Product Validation team, focusing on the rigorous development and testing of transit buses to meet internal and external requirements. This position involves performing stress analysis on vehicle structures, coordinating testing efforts, and ensuring the reliability and quality of the products through advanced engineering techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Perform stress analysis of primary and secondary heavy-duty vehicle structures made of metallic and composite materials.
  • Apply free body diagrams, hand calculations, and numerical methods for estimating and developing loads.
  • Perform linear and non-linear structural analysis including static/transient structural, modal, Random Vibration, and Response Spectrum Analyses.
  • Validate finite element analysis with hand calculations and test data, and work with the team to develop test requirements.
  • Support development of new and complex designs through robust analyses that predict product response under expected use conditions.
  • Coordinate and communicate regularly with leadership and team members to provide updates on project progress and quality metrics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME), Aerospace Engineering (BSAE), or equivalent fields; Master's degree is a plus.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience with vehicle strength, stability, and fatigue/durability assessments through finite element analysis.
  • Good understanding of structural mechanics/dynamics and mechanical designs, with a basic background in thermal and fluids analysis.
  • Experience with FEA software (preferably ANSYS) and 3D modeling environments (preferably NX).
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes including sheet metal, welding, and casting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves

  • Automotive, Heavy Duty On/Off Road or Commercial vehicle experience preferred.
  • General knowledge of heavy-duty vehicle industry standards, regulations, and guidelines such as FMVSS, ADA, APTA Bus Procurement Guidelines.
