About the position

As a Senior Structural Bridge Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in our Bridges Team, which is dedicated to creating and rehabilitating bridges that serve our communities and define our regions. This position is designed for a seasoned professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and possesses excellent client and communication skills. You will lead a small bridge squad while being integrated into larger bridge teams, working on a variety of projects that include pedestrian, vehicular, railroad, and other critical infrastructure. Your responsibilities will include providing direct supervision, acting as an advisor, and being actively involved in project management to meet schedules and resolve any arising issues. In this role, you will serve as a Senior Project Manager and Design Squad Group Leader, overseeing the planning, design, and analysis of complex concrete and steel bridge and rail projects. You will develop task scopes and budgets, manage structural tasks for multi-discipline projects, and prepare contract documents, specifications, and reports. Your expertise in advanced structural engineering principles will be essential for providing engineering solutions for the assessment, evaluation, design, rehabilitation, and strengthening of bridges and other transportation structures. You will also lead teams in preparing construction contract documents and perform quality reviews of drawings and codes. Additionally, you will be responsible for conducting advanced calculations and structural analysis using company-standard software and proprietary tools. Staying updated on regulatory changes and writing proposals as project issues arise will also be part of your duties. Occasional fieldwork may be required to assess site conditions and gather data to support design development or construction phase engineering. You will mentor junior staff and provide work direction, ensuring that all projects are delivered on time and within budget.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Senior Project Manager and a Design Squad Group Leader.
  • Lead the planning, design, and analysis of complex concrete and steel bridge and rail projects.
  • Develop task scopes and budgets to meet project delivery requirements.
  • Manage bridge or structural tasks for multi-discipline projects, including developing rehabilitation or replacement strategies.
  • Complete structural analysis and design for various transportation structures.
  • Prepare contract documents, specifications, and reports.
  • Apply advanced structural engineering principles for assessment, evaluation, design, rehabilitation, and strengthening of bridges.
  • Lead teams in preparing construction contract documents, plans, and reports.
  • Conduct advanced interpretations and quality reviews of drawings, codes, and other materials.
  • Perform and/or supervise advanced calculations and structural analysis/modeling using company standard software.
  • Stay up to date on regulatory changes and write proposals as project issues arise.
  • Perform occasional field work to assess site conditions and gather data.
  • Mentor junior professional and technical staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Civil/Structural Engineering; Master of Science (MS) degree preferred.
  • PE license required; SE licensure is a plus.
  • Minimum of 15 years of bridge design experience.
  • Proven experience with structural design and load rating software such as AASHTOWare, BRASS, CSiBridge, LEAP Software, SAP2000, Larsa 4D, LPile/Group, MDX, Midas, STAAD, and others.
  • Practical experience applying the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation.
  • Ability to use MicroStation preferred and proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Mathcad.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in alternate project delivery methods including design-build project experience preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong seismic design/analysis experience is a plus.
  • Experience with CDOT, ADOT, NDOT, NMDOT, UDOT, WSDOT, and/or Caltrans is preferred.
