About the position

As a Senior Structural Bridge Engineer at Stantec Inc., you will play a pivotal role in our Bridges Team, which is dedicated to creating and rehabilitating bridges that serve our communities and define our regions. This position is based in Las Vegas, NV, and offers an exciting opportunity for a seasoned professional who thrives in a collaborative environment. You will be responsible for leading a small bridge squad while integrating with larger bridge teams on various projects related to pedestrian, vehicular, railroad, and other critical infrastructure. Your expertise in design and strong communication skills will be essential as you work closely with clients and team members to achieve project goals. In this role, you will act as a Senior Project Manager and Design Squad Group Leader, overseeing the planning, design, and analysis of complex concrete and steel bridge and rail projects. You will develop task scopes and budgets to ensure timely project delivery and manage structural tasks for multi-discipline projects. This includes developing rehabilitation or replacement strategies, conducting structural analysis, and preparing contract documents, specifications, and reports. You will apply advanced structural engineering principles to provide innovative solutions for the assessment, evaluation, design, rehabilitation, and strengthening of bridges and other transportation structures. Your responsibilities will also include leading teams in preparing construction contract documents, conducting quality reviews of drawings and codes, and performing advanced calculations and structural modeling using both standard and proprietary software. Staying updated on regulatory changes is crucial, as is the ability to write and negotiate proposals as project issues arise. You may also be required to perform fieldwork to assess site conditions and gather data to support design development or construction phase engineering. Additionally, you will provide mentorship and direction to junior professional and technical staff, fostering their growth and development within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Senior Project Manager and a Design Squad Group Leader
  • Serve as a senior technical leader for the planning, design, and analysis of complex concrete and steel bridge and rail projects and structures
  • Develop task scopes and budgets to meet project delivery requirements
  • Manage the bridge or structural tasks for multi-discipline projects, including developing structure rehabilitation or replacement strategies, completing structural analysis, and preparing contract documents, specifications, and reports
  • Apply advanced structural engineering principles to provide engineering solutions for assessment, evaluation, design, rehabilitation, and strengthening of bridges and other transportation structures
  • Lead and assist teams in preparing construction contract documents, plans, and reports
  • Conduct advanced interpretations and quality reviews of drawings, codes, and other similar materials
  • Perform and/or supervise advanced calculations and structural analysis/modeling using company standard software and/or proprietary manufacturer software
  • Stay up to date on regulatory changes
  • Write and negotiate proposals as project issues arise with clients or reviewing agencies
  • Perform occasional field work to assess site conditions and gather data to support proposals, design development, or construction phase engineering, as needed
  • Provide work direction to and mentor junior professional and technical staff

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in structural engineering, with a focus on bridge design and analysis
  • Strong knowledge of structural engineering principles and practices
  • Experience with project management and client interaction
  • Proficiency in structural analysis software and design tools
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
