About the position

VHB's structural engineering group plays a vital role in developing and enhancing connectivity through infrastructure projects such as complex bridge and interchange designs, rehabilitation and inspection, pedestrian walkways, and transit stations. This diverse range of structural engineering services helps improve mobility for the traveling public. Among its recent recognitions, VHB won seven awards at the American Council of Engineering, as well as Engineering News-Record's 2024 New England Design Firm of the Year, recognizing its impactful development and infrastructure projects in the New England area. VHB is seeking a Senior Structural/Bridge Engineer to join this dynamic group. In this position, you would serve in a lead role in the planning, analysis, design, and detailing of bridge and other transportation related structural projects, as well as helping to lead and mentor our technical staff.

Responsibilities

  • Manages, develops, organizes, and implements structural planning, analysis, preliminary and final design document preparation for bridge/ transportation projects
  • Prepares proposals and/or contracts; Participates in project decisions regarding technical approach, costs, and scheduling
  • Responsible for client relationships, visibility, and business development
  • Directs and mentors team members in the development of design plans, technical oversight, specifications, design calculations, load ratings, cost estimates, reports, final bid packages, etc.
  • Project management/task management
  • Reviews plans, specifications, reports, and analyses to meet scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements

Requirements

  • 8+ years required, 11+ years preferred of professional experience
  • BS in Civil Engineering (structural emphasis preferred) (1-2 years of experience can be substituted for a master's degree)
  • PE license required
  • Experience completing transportation studies, design reports, final design documents and developing contract plans, in conformity with accepted engineering standards and procedures including AASHTO & DOT
  • Independent experience developing bridge design and detailing (steel, concrete, prestressed concrete), and seismic analysis

  • AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation v8 and Connect experience is a strong plus
