About the position

DCI, a wholly owned subsidiary of Axient Corporation LLC, is seeking a Senior Structural Dynamics Engineer to support current and future development programs with NASA and commercial companies. This position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule, where part of the employee's work schedule will be required to be on-site at DCI/Axient facilities in Huntsville, AL. DCI is primarily focused on supporting NASA and commercial space companies, having played a key role in supporting the Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) in the development of the Space Launch System (SLS), which successfully launched the Artemis 1 in November 2022. Additionally, DCI supports Dynetics in the development and manufacture of the Universal Stage Adapter (USA) for the Block 1B variant of SLS. As a Senior Structural Dynamics Engineer, you will be responsible for performing structural dynamic analyses for spacecraft flight hardware. Your role will involve producing and maintaining models generated from both in-house and commercially available software codes that simulate mechanical loading conditions, dynamic environments (shock and vibration), and mechanism motions. You will also be tasked with performing loads development at both the primary structure and component level, determining shock and vibration environments, and conducting component and system-level testing and data evaluation. Furthermore, you will prepare test plans and requirements for various tests, including static, separation dynamics, vibration, modal, and shock tests, and analyze and document the results in post-test reports. Generating detailed analysis reports and effectively communicating those results with the customer will also be a key part of your responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Performing structural dynamic analyses for spacecraft flight hardware
  • Producing and maintaining models generated from both in-house and commercially available software codes that simulate mechanical loading conditions, dynamic environments (shock and vibration), and mechanism motions
  • Performing loads development (primary structure and component level), shock and vibration environments determination, and component and system level testing and data evaluation
  • Preparing test plans/requirements for static, separation dynamics, vibration, modal and shock tests
  • Analyzing and documenting the results in post-test reports
  • Generating detailed analysis reports and presenting/communicating those results with the customer

Requirements

  • Master's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited university
  • 15 years of experience with static and structural dynamics analysis of spacecraft, aircraft, or missiles
  • Resident of the greater Huntsville area in north Alabama or willing to relocate
  • Willingness to travel up to 5% of time
  • Candidate must be a US citizen

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficient with NASTRAN, Craig-Bampton model reduction, steady-state and transient dynamic analysis
  • Experience with Femap or other Finite Element Modeling interface
  • Experience with ADAMS Multibody dynamics software, or other industry standard modeling and analysis toolsets
  • Familiarity with NASA and/or commercial spaceflight programs and requirements
  • Experience with Matlab, Python or other programming language to support creation of in-house tools and scripts to solve complex problems not immediately achievable with canned software packages
