The Central Civil Works Department is experiencing rapid growth in the Great Lakes and Mid-West area, and we are seeking a Senior Structural Engineer who is passionate about leading the structural design of new and rehabilitated flood risk management systems. This includes projects such as locks and dams, floodwalls, navigation floodgates, stormwater pumping stations, outfalls, spillways, and ecosystem restoration. Our department collaborates on projects with teams across the nation and globally, combining the expertise of project managers, civil engineers, hydrology and hydraulics engineers, geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, and environmental and planning specialists to deliver integrated, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions. This position is hybrid, allowing for a mix of remote and in-office work. In this role, you will primarily work on federal projects for clients such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), U.S. International Boundary and Water Commission (USIBWC), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). As a Senior Structural Engineer, you will lead the preparation of structural analyses, plans, specifications, cost estimates, technical reports, and other project documents, utilizing standard techniques while also exploring advanced methods for structural elements in flood risk management projects from planning through construction. You will collaborate with clients and AECOM counterparts to ensure stakeholder buy-in for solutions and contribute to AECOM's broader technical capabilities and innovative approaches. Your responsibilities will include overseeing and reviewing the work produced by others, ensuring compliance with quality control measures, and mentoring junior engineers. You will also conduct site visits to active construction sites, participate in alternatives analyses and value engineering, and assist with cost proposals and business development efforts. This position offers the opportunity to shape your career path, whether in technical leadership, people management, project management, or business development.
