About the position

The Central Civil Works Department at AECOM is rapidly expanding in the Great Lakes and Mid-West area, and we are seeking a Senior Structural Engineer who is passionate about leading the structural design of new and rehabilitated flood risk management systems. This includes projects such as locks and dams, floodwalls, navigation floodgates, stormwater pumping stations, outfalls, spillways, and ecosystem restoration. Our department collaborates on projects with teams across the nation and globally, integrating the expertise of project managers, civil engineers, hydrology and hydraulics engineers, geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, and environmental and planning specialists to deliver sustainable and cost-effective solutions. This position is hybrid, allowing for a blend of remote and in-office work. In this role, you will take charge of structural design leadership, preparing structural analyses, plans, specifications, cost estimates, technical reports, and other project documents. You will utilize standard techniques and procedures while also gaining an understanding of advanced methods for structural elements on flood risk management projects from planning through construction. Collaboration is key, as you will work closely with clients and AECOM counterparts to ensure stakeholder buy-in and contribute to AECOM's broader technical capabilities and innovative approaches. Quality delivery is paramount; you will oversee and review the work produced by others, ensuring compliance with all quality control measures for timely and accurate results. You will also be encouraged to explore and harness new methods, fostering a culture of innovation within the team. Mentorship is a significant aspect of this role, as you will delegate tasks, direct the work of others, and act as a technical mentor to junior engineers. Additional responsibilities include ensuring compliance with applicable standards and regulations, conducting constructability reviews, performing site visits to examine field conditions, and presenting project updates to clients as needed. You will also assist with cost proposals, defining project scope and schedule, and contribute to business development efforts as required. This position offers the opportunity to grow into various roles, including technical leadership, people management, project management, and business development, all of which are equally valued within AECOM.
