About the position

The Senior Structural Engineer will lead the design of flood risk management systems, including locks, dams, floodwalls, and stormwater pumping stations. This role involves collaboration with various engineering disciplines to deliver integrated and sustainable solutions for federal projects, primarily for clients such as USACE and FEMA. The position requires oversight of project documentation, quality control, and mentoring of junior engineers, while also providing opportunities for innovation and business development.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation of structural analyses, plans, specifications, cost estimates, and technical reports for flood risk management projects.
  • Collaborate with clients and AECOM counterparts to ensure stakeholder buy-in and contribute to AECOM's technical capabilities.
  • Oversee and review work produced by others, ensuring compliance with quality control measures.
  • Seek opportunities to innovate and trial new methods in structural design.
  • Mentor junior engineers and delegate tasks within the project team.
  • Ensure compliance of design with applicable standards and regulations, providing professional engineer seal and signature.
  • Participate in alternatives analyses and value engineering for projects.
  • Conduct site visits to examine field conditions and structural work under construction.
  • Present project updates and findings to clients as needed.
  • Assist with cost proposals, defining project scope and schedule, and business development efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field with 8 years of relevant experience or equivalent education/experience.
  • Professional Engineer license in one state in the US, with the ability to obtain licenses in other states via reciprocity.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering.
  • Professional Structural Engineer license in one state in the US.
  • At least 12 years of experience as a Structural Engineer focused on flood risk management projects.
  • Expertise in structural design and construction requirements for flood risk management projects.
  • Familiarity with software such as SAP2000, Excel, CPGA, and GROUP.
  • Experience with federal projects for agencies like USACE, USIBWC, FEMA, NRCS.
  • Working knowledge of Bentley OpenRoads and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Knowledge of federal flood control design guidelines.
