About the position

The Senior Structural Engineer at Hanson will lead the bridge group in the Indiana market, focusing on highway and railway bridge projects. This role involves managing staff, delivering structural projects, and collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure project success. The engineer will perform complex calculations, utilize design software, and represent the bridge group to clients and professional organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a growing bridge group in the Indiana market by developing staff and delivering structural projects.
  • Perform complex engineering calculations and utilize computer software for analysis and design.
  • Manage staffing of Indianapolis bridge staff and determine staffing needs for INDOT and KYTC bridge projects.
  • Evaluate and report short-term and long-term backlog for INDOT and KYTC.
  • Collaborate with senior technical staff and other project disciplines on significant projects across the country.
  • Conduct analysis and design, preparation of specifications, details, and construction plans.
  • Assign duties and mentor staff and technicians.
  • Review calculations, quantity take-offs, and opinions of probable construction costs.
  • Assist in project pursuits and proposal development.
  • Represent Hanson's bridge group to clients, potential recruits, and professional organizations.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in highway bridge design.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Indiana or ability to attain within 6 months.
  • Experience with structural design software packages such as Bentley Leap Bridge is required.
  • Experience with MicroStation and MS Office Suite preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with INDOT design practices and development of bridge plans.

Nice-to-haves

  • Railway bridge design experience is desirable.
  • Registration as a P.E. in Kentucky is desirable.
  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering is desirable.
  • Experience on projects with complex bridge types and components.
  • Participation with technical society organizations.
