About the position

As a Structural Design Engineer at Kiewit, you will play a crucial role in supporting all aspects of the construction process. This position involves performing innovative design engineering, which includes brainstorming conceptual designs, conducting and reviewing structural calculations, and developing detailed plans. You will also be responsible for scheduling tasks to meet client needs while mitigating risks to ensure the safety of our construction crews. This role is part of a growing team within Kiewit Power Engineering, which is dedicated to delivering high-quality engineering services across various power projects throughout North America. Kiewit Engineering Group, Inc. is a full-service consulting and engineering firm with a rich history of over 140 years in the construction industry. Our team of more than 3,000 engineers and design professionals brings expertise across all major engineering disciplines, serving markets such as transportation, power, water/wastewater, mining, and oil, gas & chemical. The Power district, where this position is located, focuses on the EPC delivery model for power facilities, ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget. As a Structural Design Engineer, you will have the opportunity to engage in exciting projects that span the project life-cycle, collaborating closely with construction teams to deliver safe, cost-effective, and innovative designs that meet client expectations. Responsibilities

  • Prepare designs for assigned structures including research, selection of lateral force resisting system, analysis, and drawing preparation on projects ranging from moderate to large in size and complexity.
  • Lead and develop teams for projects moderate to large in size and complexity.
  • Advise others on proper application of department and industry standards to the preparation of calculations, project drawings, and project specifications.
  • Understand and meet or exceed the requirements of the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract, customer Requests for Proposals (RFPs), professional service agreements, or other contractual requirements.
  • Research new markets and adapt current processes and workflows to successfully execute project deliverables.
  • Mentor and direct the work of entry- and mid-level employees, monitor their progress, review their results, and provide coaching as needed.
  • Coordinate with internal and external partners including other engineering disciplines, construction partners, third-party subcontractors, and owners to address structural-related issues or concerns.
  • Identify and manage scope changes for projects moderate to large in size and complexity.
  • Lead quality checks for engineering deliverables and recommend changes for standards or process improvements as needed.
  • Prepare, monitor, and update complex project plans, schedules, and budgets (including staffing needs) to project management and department management.
  • Support department managers in setting and achieving performance goals for the department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural or Architectural engineering program from an ABET accredited four-year program.
  • At least six years' experience in structural engineering and design.
  • Experience in the power industry or industrial markets is preferred.
  • Functional in utilizing spreadsheets, databases, word processing, and computer operations.
  • Knowledgeable in engineering software, with SAP2000, SAFE, and Mathcad preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering standards including ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC 360, and IBC.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer.
