About the position

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer/Project Manager to join our team in Iselin, NJ, New York City, NY, or Philadelphia, PA. This role is pivotal in leading and managing various projects, particularly with the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) and the New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA). As a Senior Structural Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and management of a wide range of structures including bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and overhead gantries across highway, transit, rail, airport, and trail projects. Your expertise will be essential in driving the strategic growth of our transportation business in New Jersey. In this position, you will engage in business development activities, leveraging existing relationships to identify and pursue new opportunities. You will also play a key role in leading pursuits and writing proposals for NJDOT and NJTA projects. Your technical expertise will be utilized to select problems for investigation, develop innovative solutions, and recommend improvements to plans and programs. You will oversee project management tasks, including financial performance, resource planning, and quality control checks, ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget. Responsibilities

  • Lead design for simple and complex bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and other structures.
  • Manage and grow AtkinsRéalis' transportation business with NJDOT and NJTA.
  • Identify and pursue business opportunities and recruit top technical staff.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients and regulatory agencies.
  • Promote design excellence and provide leadership and mentoring to the team.
  • Define project scope and execute project assignments with full responsibility.
  • Select problems for investigation and develop innovative solutions.
  • Oversee financial performance of projects and assist project staff in identifying potential problems.
  • Conduct quality control checks and perform on-site inspections.
  • Assist project staff in developing work plans and reviewing schedules, budgets, and work products.

Requirements

  • B.S. and/or M.S. in Engineering with a concentration in Structures.
  • 15-20 years of relevant experience in structural engineering.
  • P.E. license (preferably NJ) and SE License is desirable.
  • Experience leading transportation design projects for NJDOT and NJTA.
  • Existing relationships with NJDOT and/or NJTA.
  • Proficiency in Structural Design of Highway Bridges and related structures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including public speaking.
  • Technical design, writing, computer, and communication skills are required.
  • Intermediate proficiency in CAD is required; experience with MicroStation is desirable.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with other types of bridges (railroad, pedestrian, etc.) is desirable.
  • Experience with managing people, project scope, budget, and schedule is desirable.
