About the position

The Senior Structural Engineer PE/SE - Team Leader will lead a structural engineering team in Northern California, focusing on the design of structural systems for various building sectors including Higher Education, K-12, Justice & Civic, Cultural and Performing Arts, and Mixed Use. This role involves developing high-quality construction documents, managing project schedules, and ensuring deliverables meet client expectations while fostering a collaborative work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design of structural systems for buildings across various sectors.
  • Develop and lead a structural engineering team to produce high-quality construction documents using Revit.
  • Manage project schedules to meet deliverable requirements.
  • Develop structural solutions from concept through construction.
  • Delegate the development of system layouts, narratives, calculations, and engineering reports.
  • Assist contractors by reviewing shop drawings, RFIs, and participating in O/A/C meetings.
  • Collaborate with architects, other engineers, and clients as part of the integrated design process.
  • Adapt to variations in building codes and construction practices for projects across the US.
  • Mentor entry-level staff and promote best practices for workflow and technical standards.
  • Contribute to managing operations and expectations for the Structural Engineering Discipline in California.
  • Support business development initiatives by assisting in the RFP process and participating in project interviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural/Architectural Engineering; Master's degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of building-related structural engineering experience, including design of concrete, masonry, steel, and wood/timber; gravity and lateral systems.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in California; Licensed Structural Engineer (SE) preferred.
  • Prior experience leading teams of engineers on projects.
  • Working knowledge of current structural software (ETABS, SAP, SAFE, RAM, ADAPT, RISA, Enercalc).
  • Experience with BIM including Autodesk Revit workflow.
  • Goal-oriented with strong problem-solving skills, creativity, and attention to detail.
  • Understanding of commercial building materials, systems, and assemblies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Passion for sustainable building design and SE2050 commitment.
  • Experience directing and coordinating project activities of junior staff.
