About the position

The Senior Structural Engineer at W.F. Baird & Associates is responsible for leading the design of waterfront and marine structures, including pile foundations, while ensuring technical oversight and project management. This role requires a strong background in concrete and steel design, particularly in infrastructure related to ports, ferry terminals, and flood control systems. Responsibilities

  • Perform and lead the design of waterfront/marine structures and pile foundations, including design details.
  • Prepare 100% plans and specifications using CAD staff.
  • Provide technical oversight of engineers and drafters.
  • Compose arguments for technical decisions.
  • Independently manage sub-projects as a Project Manager.
  • Edit sections or project descriptions for Statements of Qualifications (SOQs) as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in structural engineering of infrastructure.
  • PE or SE registration is required.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree with coursework in steel and concrete design.
  • Ability to analyze and design as an individual contributor.
  • Proficiency in creating concrete and steel drawings and details, manually or via CAD.
  • Experience with analyses in SAP2000 or similar finite element programs.
  • Professional report-writing skills, including self-proofreading.
  • Familiarity with codes and standards for structural engineering.
  • Project management skills are essential.
  • Willingness to travel for work on occasion.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with geotechnical and structural engineering software, including EnSoft products (e.g., LPILE, APILE, Group).
  • Knowledge of sheet pile design, mooring analysis, and P-M diagram generation.
  • Familiarity with codes and standards beyond IBC and ASCE 7, such as EM, API, PIANC, AASHTO.
  • Geotechnical engineering coursework or experience related to deep foundations or sheet pile bulkheads.
  • Experience in seismic design/analysis, including dynamic earth pressure calculations using Mononobe-Okabe.
