About the position

The Senior Structural Engineer at Stantec Buildings plays a crucial role in leading and executing structural engineering projects, ensuring safety, performance, and sustainability. This position involves both independent work on smaller projects and leadership of larger projects, where the engineer will guide junior engineers and collaborate with various disciplines to deliver high-quality designs that meet client expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Independently complete calculations and drawings for small and medium projects
  • Develop job-specific discipline specifications for less complex projects
  • Lead junior engineers in complex projects
  • Coordinate with architectural, interiors, and other engineering disciplines
  • Perform Construction Administration duties including field observations, responding to RFIs, submittal reviews, and evaluating contractor change orders
  • Perform calculations using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software
  • Communicate design issues and solutions with the design team and Owner clients
  • Understand industry standard design processes and construction means and methods
  • Work within project scope, budgets, and design approach to deliver projects on time and on budget
  • Nurture existing client relationships
  • Assist with the development of design standards

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 or more years of related experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required, Master's Degree preferred
  • Professional Engineering license is required, Structural Engineering license is preferred
  • Strong knowledge of structural systems, seismic design, construction means and methods, materials, and industry standards
  • Ability to communicate concepts and ideas effectively to a diverse audience
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently and in team settings
  • Experience with modeling software (Autodesk Revit)
  • Experience with industry standard Structural Engineering software (CSI, RISA, RAM, etc.)
  • Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record

Nice-to-haves

  • Healthcare experience required, specific experience with OSHPD/HCAI is a plus
  • Federal experience is a plus
