About the position

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join their Water group. This role involves leading the design of various structures related to water projects, including locks, dams, and water control gates. The position offers opportunities to work on significant infrastructure projects, providing a diverse range of challenges and the chance to mentor junior staff.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design effort for structures on or near the water (locks, dams, water control gates, moorings, etc.)
  • Direct the development of bid documents (plans, specifications, and cost estimates)
  • Develop or provide input on design effort for proposals
  • Mentor junior staff
  • Review/edit/write technical reports
  • Review/edit/write technical specifications
  • Develop design criteria for projects
  • Oversee teams of drafters to prepare design drawings
  • Perform design for steel, concrete, prestressed concrete, and timber
  • Perform QA/QC by verifying design methodology, calculations, outcomes, etc.
  • Lead field inspections and surveys in support of design and construction
  • Develop design alternatives
  • Assist project managers and leaders in the creation of proposals, client information, and designs

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university
  • Professional engineer licensure
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in structural engineering
  • Advanced knowledge in the design of concrete and steel structures
  • Advanced knowledge of structural engineering principles and their application to nonstandard structures
  • Advanced knowledge of structural engineering modeling software
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to read, write and understand English for job-related communications

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree
  • CAD (AutoCAD, MicroStation) skills
  • Experience working on US Army Corps of Engineers projects or familiarity with Corps' design guidelines
