About the position

VHB is in search of a Senior Structural Bridge Engineer to join the established and growing Structures group in our Florida offices. This position is based in Orlando, FL, and offers a hybrid work environment. As a Senior Structural Bridge Engineer, you will play a lead technical role in the planning, analysis, design, and detailing of bridge and other transportation-related structural projects. This includes a diverse range of projects from highway bridges to pedestrian and rail structures. You will be responsible for delivering interesting and challenging bridge projects not only in Florida but also in Georgia and along the east coast of the United States. In this role, you will be expected to perform structural modeling, design, and oversight for various transportation infrastructure projects. You will prepare construction documents, including plans, specifications, estimates, and calculation packages. Additionally, you will provide technical support and mentorship to the structural engineering staff, ensuring quality assurance reviews of project construction documents and engineering reports. Your responsibilities will also include assisting in the preparation of qualification packages, proposals, and contracts, as well as providing project management support and reviewing fabrication drawings and construction plans. The ideal candidate for this position should possess a proactive attitude, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Responsibilities

  • Perform structural modeling, design, and oversight for bridge and other transportation infrastructure projects
  • Prepare construction documents, including plans, specifications, estimates and calculation packages
  • Provide technical support/mentorship to structural engineering staff
  • Perform quality assurance reviews of project construction documents, engineering reports, etc.
  • Assist in preparation of qualification packages, proposals and/or contracts involving technical approach, costs, and scheduling
  • Provide project management support
  • Review fabrication drawings and provide construction plan reviews

Requirements

  • 11+ years of structural bridge design experience (LRFD)
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering required; emphasis in Structures preferred
  • PE license required
  • Experience completing engineering studies, design reports, compiling contract documents and developing contract plans, in conformity with accepted engineering standards and procedures including AASHTO, FDOT, local municipalities/counties, and other state DOTs
  • Strong familiarity with structural engineering software such as Mathcad, FB-MultiPier, ATLAS, STAAD Pro, LARSA 4D, AASHTOWare, MDX, SP Column, MerlinDASH, FDOT Structures Design Programs
  • Model-based design experience is a strong plus, including Bentley OpenBridge and OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Revit/Infraworks/Inventor
