About the position

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our team in various locations including Orlando, FL, Miami, FL, Atlanta, GA, New York City, Kirkland, WA, or Exton PA. This position offers the flexibility of in-office, hybrid, or remote work schedules. As a Senior Structural Engineer, you will lead and work on a variety of Industrial & Manufacturing and Facilities Engineering projects. You will be part of a respected global firm that has been providing engineering, construction, and project management services for over 50 years, focusing on technically challenging and time-critical infrastructure projects, particularly in the wastewater and manufacturing industries. In this role, you will independently apply advanced engineering techniques, make decisions on engineering problems and methods, and represent the organization in negotiations with key engineers and officials from other organizations. Your typical duties will include preparing calculations to determine building loads, preparing construction specifications, determining member stresses and sizes using structural analysis programs, designing multi-story steel framed structures, concrete walls, foundations, and slabs, generating engineering drawings, and reviewing calculations and drawings generated by peers. You will also coordinate structural system requirements with architects and other engineers, provide technical support during construction, and ensure the quality of design documents. This position requires a commitment to safety and design excellence, as well as direct interaction with clients to define project requirements and deliver appropriate solutions within budget and schedule constraints.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare calculations determining building dead, live, wind, and seismic loads.
  • Prepare construction specifications.
  • Determine member stresses and sizes using structural analysis programs and backcheck results using manual calculations.
  • Design multi-story steel framed structures for offices, warehouses, and manufacturing for mixed-use.
  • Design concrete walls, foundations, and slabs for buildings, tanks, and miscellaneous structures.
  • Design foundations and steel frames for pipe racks, stairs, equipment platforms, etc.
  • Generate engineering drawings.
  • Review the calculations and drawings generated by your peers.
  • Coordinate requirements of structural systems with architects, HVAC engineers, plumbing engineers, electrical engineers, and process engineers.
  • Provide technical support during construction by responding to RFI's and reviewing shop drawings.
  • Provide technical guidance to designers and less experienced engineers.
  • Execute projects varying in size with a focus on larger scope and/or higher technical complexity.
  • Ensure the quality of design documents.
  • Sign & Seal drawings and calculations developed under your supervision.
  • Reinforce an atmosphere of safety and a commitment to design excellence.
  • Work directly with clients to define project requirements and deliver appropriate solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with an emphasis on structural engineering.
  • 9-10+ years of experience in structural design.
  • Experience with retrofit projects is preferred.
  • Experience in industrial, wastewater, or military facilities is a plus.
  • A Professional Engineer License is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective communication in multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Results-oriented with good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to efficiently work simultaneously on multiple projects.
  • Positive perspective with the ability to engender a team attitude.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with RISA, STAAD.Pro or Tekla Tedds software is a plus.
  • Revit experience is preferred.
  • AutoCAD experience is a plus.
