About the position

The Senior Structural Engineer position at Holmes involves leading structural engineering projects while ensuring adherence to client agreements and project timelines. The role emphasizes effective communication with project teams and clients, as well as maintaining quality assurance protocols. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in structural engineering, with a focus on seismic design, and will be responsible for mentoring junior engineers and contributing to the firm's commitment to diversity and community engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and execute the scope, fee schedule, and contractual obligations agreed with clients.
  • Prepare a resource plan outlining the resources required to complete the scope within the schedule.
  • Ensure all project team members are adequately briefed on their respective tasks assigned, including technical components and time/cost expectations.
  • Communicate regularly with the Person in Charge (PIC) during the duration of the project.
  • Notify the PIC immediately should the scope, complexity, or schedule for the project change.
  • Write Additional Service Requests (ASRs) when additional scope is requested.
  • Ensure Holmes Structures' QA/QC protocol is followed for all projects for which you are the Project Manager.
  • Communicate with clients as needed based on the project scope.
  • Complete invoices on a monthly basis for all projects assigned by the PIC.
  • Attend weekly staffing meetings, on an as-needed basis, to coordinate staffing needs with other Project Managers.

Requirements

  • B.S. and/or M.S. Degree in Civil / Structural Engineering.
  • 6+ years working in a structural engineering consultancy.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and actively working towards Structural Engineer (SE) licensure.
  • Seismic based design experience or education.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, including listening and questioning.
  • Excellent written communication skills, including report writing.
  • Coaching/mentoring skills.
  • Presentation skills to contribute to team talks, technical sessions, and project presentations.
  • Time management skills.
  • Intermediate MS Word, Advanced MS Excel, Advanced ETABS, SAP, Risa (or equivalent).
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Sound technical skills: understands structural engineering design principles.
  • Team player: works with project team.
