About the position

The Senior Structural Engineer position is a critical role responsible for delivering high-quality engineering services from the conceptual design phase through to the completion of construction. This position requires a proven track record of excellence in managing large and complex projects, ensuring that all engineering applications and decisions are appropriately engaged throughout the project lifecycle. The Senior Structural Engineer will work independently and collaboratively, coordinating with various departments including Project Management, Construction, and Service to ensure seamless project execution. In this role, the engineer will be expected to independently complete conceptual designs and develop construction drawings for multiple projects simultaneously. Effective communication is essential, as the engineer will need to proactively engage with project teams and trade partners to ensure that project designs are well-coordinated and executed. The position also involves field engineering responsibilities, assisting with project execution, trade coordination, scheduling, document management, and troubleshooting as required. The Senior Structural Engineer must possess an expert-level understanding of building codes, structural guidelines, and best practices. They will manage their time effectively to meet project schedules and deadlines while adhering to ACCO engineering standards and project execution processes. Responsibilities include performing equipment anchorage calculations, designing roof top duct and pipe supports, conducting seismic restraint calculations, and creating templates for standard designs that promote cost-effective installation. The role may also involve other duties as assigned by the manager, emphasizing the need for flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Expert in project planning, coordination, and execution.
  • Independently complete conceptual design through construction drawing development for large complex project or multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Appropriate engagement of engineering applications and/or managers in project decisions.
  • Proactively communicate and coordinate project designs with Project Management, Construction and Service departments, Controls, and other trade partners.
  • Assist with project execution, trade coordination, scheduling, document management and problem solving/troubleshooting, as required.
  • Effectively and professionally communicate with colleagues and project team members.
  • Expert level understanding of building codes, structural guidelines, and best practices.
  • Manage time to meet project schedules and task deadlines.
  • Excellent understanding of ACCO engineering standards and project execution processes.
  • Perform equipment anchorage calculations and PE wet stamped installation package including BOM.
  • Conduct equipment vibration isolation calculations and PE wet stamped installation package including BOM.
  • Design roof top duct and pipe supports, and PE stamped installation package including BOM.
  • Create riser duct and pipe supports, and PE stamped installation package.
  • Conduct seismic restraint calculations for duct and pipe.
  • Verify roof structure of existing structures for equipment replacement.
  • Design structural equipment skids.
  • Design supplemental steel for equipment, duct or pipe supports including BOM.
  • Create templates and standard designs for supports, attachments and seismic bracing that creates an economy of scale that is cost effective to install and build.
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager.

Requirements

  • BS in Structural or Civil Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer license highly desirable, but not required. Must be able to obtain within a short period of time.
  • 8+ years of experience in structural design.
  • Excellent understanding of engineering and design fundamentals.
  • Excellent familiarity with building codes and industry standards.
  • Thorough understanding of seismic bracing design, attachment design, supplemental support design.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit or Bluebeam, or similar drafting software preferred.
  • Knowledgeable with 3D modeling software to create design and installation packages.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work independently with limited oversight, as well as part of a highly collaborative team.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize and multi-task.

  • Experience with advanced structural analysis software.
  • Familiarity with LEED certification processes and sustainable design practices.
