About the position

The Senior Structural Engineer/Designer will be responsible for designing structural systems across a diverse range of project types. This includes but is not limited to manufacturing facilities, distribution centers, data centers, commercial buildings, self-storage units, churches, historical structures, public sector projects, retail spaces, adaptive reuse projects, and renovations. The role requires a deep understanding of existing facility analysis and the ability to interact effectively with clients. The engineer will attend meetings with clients, architects, and contractors, ensuring that all structural documentation is thoroughly reviewed and that the project aligns with client expectations and company quality standards. In addition to design responsibilities, the Senior Structural Engineer/Designer will manage and supervise junior staff, providing mentorship and guidance. The preparation of design calculations and the management of construction document preparation are key components of this role. The engineer will also review shop drawings and submittals, perform site reviews, and prepare responses to Requests for Information (RFIs). Coordination across all disciplines is essential to ensure that deliverables meet the required standards and specifications. Candidates should have extensive experience in various structural materials, including wood, steel, load-bearing light gauge steel, concrete, post-tensioned concrete, and masonry, particularly in low to mid-rise structures. Experience with shallow and deep foundation system design is also required. A minimum of 15 years of experience in structural engineering is necessary, along with a professional license. Seismic design experience is a must, as is the ability to identify and apply relevant codes in project-specific jurisdictions. Familiarity with Revit is preferred, and candidates should be adept at working in a fast-paced team environment, managing multiple projects and deadlines effectively. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential, as is project management experience and the ability to demonstrate leadership within a team setting.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with clients and attend meetings with clients, architects, and contractors.
  • Review structural documentation and manage the preparation of construction documents.
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff in their engineering tasks.
  • Prepare design calculations and review shop drawings and submittals.
  • Perform site reviews and prepare responses to Requests for Information (RFIs).
  • Coordinate information across all disciplines to ensure compliance with client expectations and quality levels.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in structural engineering.
  • Professional license is required.
  • Experience in designing with wood, steel, load-bearing light gauge steel, concrete, post-tensioned concrete, and masonry in low to mid-rise structures.
  • Experience with shallow and deep foundation system design.
  • Seismic design experience is required.

Nice-to-haves
