About the position

As a Mechanical Engineer in the Devices & Services team at Google, you will leverage your engineering expertise to design, analyze, and prototype innovative solutions for various engineering challenges. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment to optimize product designs and ensure successful manufacturing processes. You will be instrumental in driving the analysis of cutting-edge designs and utilizing advanced simulation techniques to enhance product performance.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify risks and create analysis/simulation/validation plans.
  • Brainstorm and propose solutions to problems based on analysis data.
  • Iterate through the entire product development cycle to optimize design for product performance objectives.
  • Own and drive analysis of cutting-edge designs, enabling early optimization prior to prototyping.
  • Conduct root cause and failure analysis of complex mechanical problems.
  • Generate FEA/analytical models of mechanical parts, modules, and assemblies.
  • Perform static, dynamic, structural, and thermal-mechanical analysis to predict field failure models.
  • Build simulation models using thorough verification, calibration, and validation techniques.
  • Drive the exploration, validation, and integration of new technologies, materials, analysis methods, and tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with structural simulation software.
  • Experience with engineering and physics-based first principles.
  • Experience with the mechanical properties of materials (e.g., glass, ceramics, metals, plastics, polymers, or adhesives).
  • Experience with numerical methods, modeling practices, and FEA tools (e.g., Abaqus, Ansys, etc.).

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a similar field.
  • 8 years of experience with structural simulation in the consumer electronics industry.
  • Experience with designing, building, and testing prototypes to validate design concepts and analysis results.
  • Experience setting up both a material lab and development of validation tools.
  • Experience with advanced material characterization and modeling for developing numerical models.
  • Knowledge of design tools such as NX or similar CAD software.

Benefits

  • Base salary range of $142,000-$211,000 + bonus + equity + benefits.
